Obituary of Daniel J. Olson

South Plainfield - Daniel J. Olson, Sr., 92, died Sunday November 19, 2017 in the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park.
Born in Plainfield to the late Daniel and Margaret (Corrigan) Olson, Daniel settled to South Plainfield in 1950.
An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy, Daniel served our country during WWII in the South Pacific on the USS Washington BB56. He was a member of the South Plainfield VFW Post 6763 and enjoyed bowling, watching the New York Yankees, golf and tinkering around the house.
He was predeceased by his wife, Anne J. Olson who died in 2009, Sisters Joan Diller and Marie Polidori, and brother in law John Polidori. Surviving are his two children, Merry Hoppe, and Daniel J. Olson, Jr. and wife Carol, all of South Plainfield and two sisters, Eva Fisher, her companion, Ralph, Emily Jiovino her husband Vincent and brother in law, Charles Diller, along with many nieces and nephews.
He will also be missed by his eight grandchildren, Charles Hoppe, Michael Hoppe and wife Kim, Daniel Hoppe and wife Vanessa, Jillian Sarullo and husband Patrick, Matthew Hoppe, Dr. Daniel Olson, William Olson and fiancé Beth Schrettner and James Olson, seven great grandchildren, Emma, Carly, Ryan, Adriana, Brayden and Madison Hoppe and William Patrick Sarullo.
Cremation was held privately.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield, NJ 07080 from 5-7PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 www.stjude.org.
