South Plainfield - Antoni "Tony" Leonard Franczak, 74, died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at AristaCare at Cedar Oaks in South Plainfield. Born in Flemalle Grande, Belgium. Tony was fluent in English, French and Polish, he served in the Belgium Navy until he immigrated to the United States in the early 1960's. He then served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and received both the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Initially he resided in South Amboy and Metuchen, and later he settled as a long time resident of South Plainfield. After the war, Tony initially worked for the Middlesex Water Company briefly before his longtime employment until retirement as a Programmer with Sungard Pentamation Inc. in Bethehem, PA. A devoted communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield. Tony was also an avid golfer and participated in the South Plainfield Men's Golf League on Tuesday nights. In his younger years, he enjoyed drag racing, motocross and driving his 1958 Corvette. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Jozepha Franczak and brother, Richard Franczak, surviving are his wife, Donna Lynn of South Plainfield; sons, Antoni M. of South Plainfield, David and his wife Sandra of Colonia; step daughter Nicole Voorhees-Bickunas and husband Kevin of South Plainfield; step son Frank Marmora and wife Jacqueline of Staten Island, NY; sister and niece; Helene Emanuelle and Michele Ondrof of Whiting. He will also be missed by his six grandchildren, David, Sarah and Luke Franczak of Colonia; Kaileigh, Brandon and Nicholas Bickunas of South Plainfield and his beloved dog, Pepper. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 9:15AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by burial in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. Family and friends may attend visitation on Monday from 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.com.
