Sylvia C Boccia, 85, passed away on Thursday, July 7,2016 in Brielle. Born and raised in North Plainfield, Sylvia resided in Plainfield prior to settling to South Plainfield in the early 1980s. Sylvia worked for the US government at Camp Kilmer and the Belle Mead General Depot before marrying and raising her family. For more than 30 years "Big Syl" managed the former Margies's Cake Box in Plainfield until retirement. Sylvia met her husband Mario at North Plainfield High School on the football field, the epic story of the cheerleader and the football player They were married for almost 58 years before Mario's death in 2010. She loved shopping at the mall and spending weekends at her shore house in Ortley Beach. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mom and "gram" to her family. Her true passion was The New York Yankees and being a season ticket holder. Her seat can never be filled but the memories that sustain us remain. In addition, Sylvia also enjoyed her yearly trip to Aruba with her family. She is pre deceased by her husband James Mario and by her parents Henry and Grace Venditti and sister Angelina Venditti. Surviving are her three daughters,Deborah Palmer of Brielle, Karen Boccia of South Plainfield and Jamie Boccia of Ortley Beach, her two granddaughters Lindsay Kohn and her husband Seth and Clair Harmon and her husband Nicholas. Also surviving are her two great grandchildren, Landry Kohn and Oliver Harmon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals 2425 Plainfield Avenue followed by a 10 AM mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 11,2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Huntington's Disease Society of America www.hdsa.org
