South Plainfield, NJ - Bertha (Hawdon) Mastrian, 83, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Somerset in Somerville. Born in Pembroke Parish, Bermuda to the late Anthony and Mildred (Thomas) Hawdon, Bertha has lived in South Plainfield for the last sixty years. A true homemaker, Bertha loved to care for her children and grandchildren, especially down the beach at their former beach house in Avalon. She enjoyed time spent at her church, the North Plainfield Baptist Church, and could always be found teaching Sunday School or Nursery School. Predeceased by three siblings; Bertha leaves behind her loving family; husband William, daughter Cindy, son Keith and his wife Laura, five adored grandchildren; Jennifer, Matthews, Joel, Collin and Alex and two cherished great grandchildren Harrison and Hudson. Visitation will take place in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 3pm-5pm and on Monday, November 13, 2017 beginning 10:30 am. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 in the funeral home beginning 11:00 am with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery of Samptown in South Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bertha's name may be sent to the North Plainfield Baptist Church Youth Group, 543 Rockview Avenue, North Plainfield, NJ 07063.
