To Family and Friends of Pascual Perez AKA Paco Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of a handsome and wonderful young man. Today April 5, 2010 two officers rang my door-bell at 8am one was from Piscataway and one was from Rahway. My only child Joe left our home late that evening on his motorcycle. He lived with my mother and she wasn't up to coming. Joe's car was parked in the driveway with the keys in the ignition but the battery was drained. The drunk driver was given a free pass and walks the streets. A while after I have been going on Legacy and talking with other parents from across the United States. Bernie's Dad David posted this message for members and I'd like to post it here in the hopes that it will help you as time goes by. As follow; We should know that the good go early to their rewards. The Good Lord sees their goodness, that there is no further improvement to be made and spares them the long hard road that we must travel.

At this time, when we are mourning this tragic passing, I want to share with you a few of our family memories: Our family first met this young man while I was chaperoning an MLK School fall field trip when my son, Nils, was either in 4th or 5th grade. I am thinking it was when Nils was in 4th grade. We boarded the school bus for the destination and Nils asked me if it was okay if he not sit next to me on the bus as he wanted to sit next to his new friend, a new student named Paco. “Of course,” I replied back. I noticed how well Nils and his new friend connected as they carried on a great conversation. I knew right there and then, Nils had made a great friend, most likely a true life-long friend. Some time later, this new true friend, Paco, threw a bowling birthday party. The kids all had a tremendous time. I recall when the parents brought out a beautiful and delicious Red Velvet Cake at the end of the party. Nils and I told Paco that red velvet cake was one of our favorites too. It was a great party. And ever since that party, our family always referred to Red Velvet Cake as “Paco Cake!” Paca went on to play Little League Baseball. He was not on Nils’s team yet they both made the All-Star Team one year. That game was held on an uncharacteristically humid, hot, sticky day in May Paco wisely opted to attend a pool party instead of playing in that game. Well he made the right choice! The game turned out to be a lopsided game with the National League getting battered and blown out. I am sure Paco would have helped to improve the score for the National League that day. After that game, from then, Nils always told Paco that a pool party was definitely the best place to be on that hot day! Paco’s dad was also quite a motivator. I recall if a LL Player was having an off day or looking anxious, this dad, the assistant coach would exclaim, “A horse walks into a bar…” I asked about that and Nils replied to me that the next line of the joke would be, “And the bar tender asked him why the long face?” The idea was Little League was no place for long faces! Nils continued to be good friends with this young man during their four years at Piscataway High School often visiting his house where they had bon fires and just enjoyed hanging out. It was just as I predicted that they would be on the class field trip years ago on that glorious, golden autumn day. They both went on to RU together, Class of 2017. This past winter, another excellent friend of theirs passed on quite unexpectedly and tragically. This friend who passed on in January was even a much closer friend to Paco than Nils was. Wanting to pay tribute to his fallen friend, and to help the family, Paco generously set up a “Go Fund Me” fund to help the family with expenses. Well these past few months were especially trying and sorrowful. Nils and Paco took a trip to Atlantic City together for the recent Spring Break. Yes, as is so often the case in AC, they both lost money. But that was okay. They both wanted to get away, try to have some fun, and breathe in some cool, refreshing ocean air. That was last field trip that the two took together – those two good friends. Last Saturday, while Nils was at work, he received the tragic text that no friend ever wants to receive – that a close, personal friend, (or even an acquaintance for that matter), has suddenly and unexpectedly passed. Our hearts are beyond heavy, it is more as if our hearts are crushed. We try to find joy in the wonderful times Nils, and so many in the PHS Class of 2013 and the RU Class of 2017, had with Paco. May God bless him and may he rest in Peace.
