Annandale, NJ - Bernard A. "Barry" Helfrich, 79, passed away at St. Claire's Hospital under hospice care on Friday, September 2, 2016. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to his late parents Bernard F. and Katherine (Brennan) Helfrich, raised his family in South Plainfield, NJ before retiring to Harveys Lake, PA.
An Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Army, Barry faithfully served his country during 1955-1958. He retired from the American Can Company in Hillside where he worked for many years as a Payroll clerk. He belonged to the Harvey's Lake American Legion and was a former member of the South Plainfield American Legion.
Barry is predeceased by his wife Mary Ann who passed away in 1972 and by his siblings; brother Charles and sister Jean Allen.
Barry leaves behind his loving family; children Mary Kay Roncoroni and husband John of Lebanon Township, Bernie and wife Kim of Annandale, Dave and wife Karen of Barnegat, Dennis and wife Jenine of Marlton and Brian and wife Tara of Flemington, twelve grandchildren; Kathryn, John and Lauren Roncoroni, Cade, Sierra, David, Olivia, Madelyn, Nina, Keira, Riley and Cole Helfrich, brother Jim Helfrich and wife Naomi, sister-in-law Sandi Helfrich and many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless friends who were like family.
Visitation will take place at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6-9pm and on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 8:45 am until the 9:15 am prayers.
Prayers will begin in the funeral home 9:15 am on Friday, September 9, 2016 followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Barry will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Annie in the family plot of Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
