Missing you today on your birthday, and every day. You are truly loved and missed by so many. I wish we were all celebrating your retirement and senior citizen status in some new white pants and to that you would have responded, "just shoot me" :o)

Dear Kathy,
I just heard the awful news. I am terribly sorry for your loss.
I never met John, but I wish I had; what a wonderful obituary! He sounds like an amazing person, full of life and joy, just like you. I hope the memories, and the love and support of your family, will bring you solace in time.
With love,
Kevin

Dear Kathy and family,
I cannot imagine how devastated you all must be. I am glad you have each other to help you through this very difficult time.
I recall meeting John on one occasion when he was able to join you on one of your RAS travels (Portugal I believe). It was clear that you had a very deep and joyful relationship - you were having fun with each other and it infected everyone else present. While those memories may be painful now, you will cherish them always.
Take care and know that our thoughts and sympathies are with you.

I was sorry to hear of the death of such a vital and loved man. He certainly loved life and his way of living showed what a special person he was. I hope that you will remember only happy memories of good times spent together and that Jesus' promise of a resurrection will give you hope of seeing him again. "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life..." John 5:28, 29.

Dear Kathy,
I will not be able to express in words what I would like to express. Probably not in person, and certainly not in this e-mail. From the very bottom of my soul, I am deeply sorry about the loss you have been experiencing. It was right after ICRA, and we saw each other on Saturday.
Loosing someone that has accompanied you through your life, or at least most of it, is one of the most difficult experiences in life - for everyone. I am trying to write something meaningful here, but given the order of magnitude of such a loss, it is not easy. My thoughts and prayers are with you - yes, I can write this, and yes this is true. But does this really help you?
Loosing your husband who is close to you is an experience. Experiences in life make us stronger, wiser, and thoughtful for the future - as there is always a way forward and more in life to look forward. Meaningful things. Always.
I do hope you have the chance to be with the dearest humans around you during this time, who will all be there for you. Please do not worry about work (at all) - spend the time with the ones closet to you. I am wishing you the time, the willingness, and the leverage you need for yourself during this time.
Sincerely,
Torsten

Dear Kathryn,
I had the great pleasure of working closely with John for the past four years. He was a wonderful mentor, colleague and friend. John was a unique personality who took his job seriously, executed it with skill but was never at a loss for a good laugh concerning current events or the common absurdities which tend to arise in the workplace.
My condolences to you and your family whom John always talked so proudly of. I am all the better for having known him.

John William’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I am sending you a link with more information on this hope.

My favorite memory of John is the Aruba trip. How joyful he was dancing with Kathy and Rebecca and Caroline to the tune of "Sweet Caroline" and everyone sang. He was so intrigued by Chris's interest in geography. One special thing that made him stand out is how immediately one could feel comfortable with him. For example, the first time I met the family we all played Quiddler. I was just learning it and happened to pick up a fourth card which spelled a somewhat vulgar word. Not that bad but I just didn't know WHAT to do - so showed the hand to John. "Play it," he said. "It's a word, good points!" But I just couldn't with the elderly parents and being in a new situation. He laughed that I was too "chicken" to play it. He was just easy to trust and feel comfortable with right away. He was smart and funny, always positive. Great love and devotion to his family.
Very sad to lose such a sincere, loving and kind man. My whole family is so sorry for your loss, Kathy, Caroline, Rebbeca, and Chris.

Dear Kathy,
although I never met your husband John, I feel like I know him from the glimpses in your family life that you shared during our meetings at IEEE RAS events. These were views on a family life of serenity and love, that you must have enjoyed with him and your son and daughters.
Shall the happiness you had with John be with you as a comforting remembrance for all your life, and continue to be as strong and merry as you have been with him now, that he simply is hidden to your eyes, but not to your soul.
With deep friendship and sympathy
Antonio

I never had a chance to meet John William Collabaugh but I collaborated a lot with his wife. I attribute the joy I experience in the interaction with her also to John and the entire family, as it is our relatives who make our life a better one. Loosing such an integral part of our life is the worst experience that can happen to us. I am truly saddened and I hope that the trees will serve as long-term witnesses of how great relationships can be. Join in honoring their life - plant a memorial tree

Dear Kathy and Family
With sadness I received the news. Last week we still met Kathy at ICRA, together with IROS our bi-annual meetings were Kathy is always the shiny happy person. Reading his live story I can completely imagine from where she has this happiness. I hope the good memories live on. My condoleances to family and friends.

My condolences to the Colabaugh family. Before I retired from Chubb in 2018, John and I would talk and joke around every day. He was a sweetheart of a guy. I turned over one of my IT systems to him before I retired and being the expert that he was, he started making great enhancements to it right away, working with me the whole time. Not having John around is a major loss for all of us. I will miss that great sense of humor of his. Rest in peace, my friend.

Kathy and the family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We pray that they will receive comfort as they celebrate his life in the coming days.

I never had a chance meet John, but I have been working together with his wife. I always attributed her happiness and motivation to a wonderful family life. I truly hope that she and her family will be able to deal with this enormous loss and will find relief by the fact that their John is now at peace.
