Obituary of Robert S. Stryker

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hillsborough, NJ – Robert S. Stryker, 83, passed away at home during the early hours of Sunday, June 27, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  Born and raised in Plainfield to the late Michael and Gladys (Metz) Stryker, Bob resided in South Plainfield for thirty-five years, where he raised his four daughters and served on the Board of Education.  He then resided in Franklin Park for sixteen years, until finally settling in Hillsborough.

Bob worked as a Statewide Office Manager for Bond Baking Company in Edison for twenty-four years.  After retiring from “Bond Bread,” Bob owned and operated “The Warehouse,” one of South Plainfield’s earliest odd lot stores, and ultimately finished his working career as a Budget Analyst for the County of Union.

A true family man, Bob could often be seen at his wife’s side at the North Plainfield Italian American Club and Franklin Park and Hillsborough Senior Centers, as well as in the audience of countless shows, concerts, and school events supporting his children and grandchildren.   A proud father and grandfather, Bob enjoyed sharing with his family his love of old movies, theater, music, and traveling, and adored the company of his loyal four-legged companion, Buddy.

During the last twenty-five years, Bob could be found at his computer, spending innumerable hours buying and selling baseball cards and collectibles as “OddballBob” on eBay, where he worked hard to maintain his reputation as a Top-Rated Seller.  He also cherished the many friends and memories he made during his winters in Pompano Beach, FL and Palm Springs, CA.

Predeceased by his beautiful wife Daisy and his sister Isabelle Kilpatrick, Bob leaves behind his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Stryker (Roger Desjadon) of Delray Beach and Franklin Park, Linda Stryker (Neville Bugwadia) of New York City, Melissa Stryker of Scotch Plains, and Robyn Resko (RandallResko) of Lambertville; his beloved sister, Patricia Carnevale of Piscataway; his sister-in-law, Sally DiDario of Hillsborough, whom he considered his sister, as well as his much loved grandchildren, Ryan Resko, Claudia Russell, Alexis Marta, and Joseph Marta, and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021, at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, in South Plainfield, commencing at 9:30 a.m., concluding with a prayer service and eulogy at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date at a private graveside gathering for both Bob and Daisy at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a gift to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center,  https://www.mskcc.org, where both Bob and Daisy were given the gift of life, love and laughter for an additional 30 years.
