Obituary of Mario Medici
Howell, NJ - Mario Medici, 94, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2023, in Barnegat, NJ.
Born and raised in South Plainfield, Mario lived in Jackson, Red Bank, and the Highlands prior to relocating to Howell in 2020.
Mr. Medici served as a supply sergeant with the Army at Newport News, VA, during the Korean Conflict, and was awarded a Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained during that posting.
Growing up in the family restaurant, Medici’s Take it Easy Bar in South Plainfield, built by his father, Mario found his true passion in the restaurant business. Over the years he had many businesses and storefronts, but most notably he and his late wife Marjorie served their community as the owner and operators of Medici’s Restaurant in South Plainfield for over 30 years. After closing this restaurant in South Plainfield, Mario owned several other restaurants, Schoolhouse Inn/Magoo’s and Medici’s Again, before he finally purchased and operated Murphy Style Grill in Red Bank for another 17 years.
Outside of the restaurants, Mario was a member of the South Plainfield Lions Club, as well as the South Plainfield Rotary Club. A scratch golfer, he enjoyed his time out on the course and was a member of the Metuchen Country Club.
Predeceased by his wife Marjorie, and brothers Joseph, Nicholas, and Anthony, he is survived by his two sons, Mark of Rockaway; Michael and his wife Jeananne of Howell; five grandchildren: Michael, Dylan, Kaleigh, David, and Brandon; great-grandchild, Avery; and sister-in-law, Helen Medici, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, February 10th, from 4 PM to 8 PM., with funeral services beginning at 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Parkinson’s Foundation in Mario’s name.
